2025 Pre and Post tour days in ROME, after Puglia tour and before Umbria tour.
Note: There is an additional deposit for all added Rome nights due by NOVEMBER 15, 2024. Details below.
Rome is one of the most fascinating historic cities in the world. You will most likely be coming and going through Rome on both of our Spring 2025 Italy tours. So why not add some days and experience a customized tour with Dan and Deb. You have never seen Rome like this before… guaranteed.
Dan has been to Rome 17 times. He knows a lot of secret things that he would love to share with you. We are organizing optional Rome days / nights. Add from 1 to 6 additional nights. It is personally designed and led by us.
For Puglia tour participants: Rome will be a POST-TRIP. Your first night in Rome will be April 3. You can add up to 6 nights. See below for itineraries.
For Umbria tour participants: Rome will be a PRE-TRIP. April 8 is already an included night in the Umbria tour. You can add up to 5 pre-trip nights in Rome. See below for itineraries.
HOW THIS WORKS: Each day will include a hotel night at our 19th century Villa hotel AND (with the exception of April 3) will INCLUDE a special guided activity/visit or two per day. We encourage you to join us in the day’s event(s) because every one of them is something out of the ordinary. IF you want to skip a planned event(s) on a day, you can just use the hotel portion. The cost for each hotel day (including a lovely breakfast in the courtyard) is $120 per person double occupancy and $210 for single occupancy.

All daily Rome add-on prices are in the table following the itinerary descriptions below.
Every additional Rome day/night requires a deposit to be made IN ADDITION to the regular first deposit for each tour. NOVEMBER 15 is the deadline for depositing for Rome. Rooms at our Villa are in demand. After November 15, unused inventory will be released and adding on after this date could be problematic if not impossible. So: Read everything below. Decide and deposit before November 15.
DEPOSIT AMOUNT FOR EXTRA ROME NIGHTS IS $75 PER PERSON double occupancy and $100 deposit for single occupancy, PER ADDED NIGHT. This is in addition to the regular $700 per person initial deposit for the tour.
Again, note that for Umbria participants, the night of April 8 is NOT an extra Rome night as it is included in your tour.

April 3 ~ Arrival day for Puglia participants. Everyone will be arriving on their own via train or plane, so there is no planned activity for this day. You can ask us for suggestions of what to do given your arrival time.

April 4 ~ Dan’s walking Rome tour
We love sharing the Rome we have come to know over 17 visits. Dan and Deb will do our morning walking tour starting right from our hotel. You will get a great overview of some of the famous sites, a bit of Roman history, and visits to some places many will miss on their own. Stops at our favorite piazza in the world, our favorite Campo, and then we will have lunch (no host) at the restaurant with the BEST PASTA we have ever enjoyed. Best part? There is no charge. Our payment is sharing what we love with our friends.
April 5 ~ Panoramic morning bike tour, no-host lunch, plus a visit to a 2,000-year-old Roman Palace!
This is a must-do event! In the morning, we will do a guided half-day bike ride on E-Bikes that will show you views of Rome that most tourists never see. We will meander along roads that run along the top of the hills above Rome. The panoramic views are breathtaking. The E-Bikes make the pedaling easy and the guides make it safe, fun, and informative. Along the way, we will ride thru the oldest section of Rome: Trastevere. At the end of the 4 hour ride, there will be time for a no-host lunch. We will then visit a 1st century Roman palace (Domus Romane di Palazzo Valentini) that was discovered while digging for a new construction 20 years ago. In a small guided group, you will visit this ancient site, walk on ceilings of glass which makes viewing easy, experience high-tech recreation of what the rooms looked like. A-maz-ing!

April 6 ~ An all-day excursion outside of Rome
~A guided visit to an Emperor’s private estate
~A guided visit to a centuries-old gravity-driven fountains and waterworks in a stunning ancient estate
~ A delicious typical lunch included

April 7 ~ Two activities, you choose

April 7 ~ Option One: Our favorite museum in Rome that very few people visit.
Spectacular is not sufficient to describe this collection of 2,000-year-old wall murals and mosaics. By some magical process, walls of Roman villas have been removed with the paint still intact and are on display in room after room of splendid vivid colors. There are large original mosaic floors with all kinds of activities and animals depicted. Top it off with two of the most rare full-sized bronze statues ever found, and you have the makings of a visit you will never forget.
April 7 ~ Option 2: A guided bike ride along a 2,000-year-old Roman road (Appian Way/ Visit a catacomb Riding in Aqueduct Park alongside an 1,800-year-old aqueduct! If you are a decent bike rider, then this option is for you. This intermediate bike ride involves riding on a 2,000-year-old stone road, some easy dirt riding, and pavement. Serious bikers: do this ride.

April 8 ~ 2 activities in one day: An 1800-year-old Roman bath/spa and an exclusive guided visit to the ruins of Emperor Nero’s massive palace, including a 3-D experience.

The morning of the 8th of April we will do our first of two activities. You will enter into a little-visited and fascinating part of ancient Roman life: The baths and spas. Rome had many baths over the centuries, but this one is the best-preserved and one of the most beautiful, with mosaic floors perfectly preserved as well as some painted walls. You will have the option to rent 3-D goggles upon entry that recreate each room as they appeared.
April 8 ~ Second activity Nero’s palacial estate Nero was a rather insane emperor who burned down the best part of Rome so he could have land to build a massive palace complex for himself near the Coliseum. (rf: Nero fiddled while Rome burned) It was the largest palace built for any emperor. Now mostly buried, it can be visited with guided small groups. At the end of the tour, 3D goggles recreate what the garden courtyard looked like.
